Muhurat Finder — Find Shubh Dates & Times for Any Important Event
A Muhurat is an auspicious window of time — a specific date or time slot where the alignment of Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana and the weekday's planetary lord supports a particular kind of activity. In Vedic tradition, choosing a Muhurat is essential for major life events: marriage (vivaha), housewarming (gruhapravesh), vehicle purchase, business launch, the first travel, the child's first hair-cut (mundan) and naming ceremony (namkaran), and the start of formal education.
AstroLumina's Muhurat finder scores every day in your chosen window for the activity you're planning. Each day is rated 0–10 based on its Nakshatra alignment with the activity, the favourability of its Tithi class (Nanda, Bhadra, Jaya, Rikta or Purna), the Yoga's nature, the Karana (Vishti / Bhadra is avoided), and the weekday lord. We boost scores for special yogas — Sarvarth Siddhi, Amrit Siddhi, Ravi Pushya, Guru Pushya — and surface warnings when Vishti karana, Mrityu yoga, or other inauspicious combinations are active.
Top-scoring days also include the best time window within the day — combining Abhijit Muhurat with the best Shubh Choghadiya periods, while flagging Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda and Gulika to avoid.

Muhurat Finder — Auspicious Dates for Marriage, Vehicle, Business, Travel
How do I find an auspicious date for my wedding?
Each Muhurat purpose has a preferred set of Nakshatras drawn from classical texts (Brihat Samhita, Muhurta Chintamani). Marriage favours Rohini, Magha, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada, and Revati. Gruhapravesh favours Rohini, Mrigashira, Anuradha, Pushya, the three Uttaras, and Shravana. The finder boosts a day's score when its Nakshatra matches the activity's traditional list, and reduces it for activity-specific avoidances.
Which Nakshatras and Tithis are favourable for what?
Tithis cluster into five classes: Nanda (joy), Bhadra (strength), Jaya (victory), Rikta (loss — Tithis 4, 9, 14, and their Krishna repeats), and Purna (completion). Riktha Tithis are widely avoided for auspicious events. Among Yogas, Vyatipata, Vaidhriti, Vishkambha, Atiganda, Shoola, Ganda, Vyaghata, Parigha and Vajra carry warnings; Siddhi, Shubha, Sukarman, Saubhagya, Shobhana, Brahma and Indra are favourable. Vishti karana (also called Bhadra) is the single karana to consistently avoid.
What is Sarvarth Siddhi Yoga and Ravi Pushya?
When a day's weekday and Nakshatra combine into Sarvarth Siddhi Yoga or Amrit Siddhi Yoga, the score jumps significantly — these are described as overriding many lesser doshas. Sunday + Pushya creates Ravi Pushya (powerful for purchases of gold, property, vehicles). Thursday + Pushya creates Guru Pushya (powerful for education, spiritual initiations, scriptural work). The finder surfaces these as named badges on each day card.
What is the best time inside the day once I have a date?
For top-scoring days, the finder also returns the best window inside the day: the Abhijit Muhurat (always present, always auspicious unless overridden), the longest Shubh Choghadiya periods, and the windows to avoid (Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda, Gulika). Combining these with the day-level score gives you both the right date and the right hour.
✦ Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Muhurat?
Muhurat (Sanskrit: मुहूर्त) is an auspicious time window — a date or time slot supported by favourable Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana, and weekday alignment. Choosing a Muhurat is a Vedic practice for timing important life events.
Which activities does this Muhurat finder support?
Eight common Muhurat purposes: marriage (vivaha), gruhapravesh (housewarming), vehicle purchase, business launch, travel, mundan (first hair-cut), namkaran (naming ceremony), and education (Vidyarambha).
How is the score calculated?
Each day starts at 5/10 baseline. Points are added for favourable Nakshatra (matched to the purpose), supportive Tithi nature (Nanda/Bhadra/Jaya/Purna), auspicious Yoga, favourable weekday, and active special yogas like Sarvarth Siddhi. Points are subtracted for Riktha tithis (Chaturthi/Navami/Chaturdashi), inauspicious yogas (Vyatipata/Vaidhriti), Vishti karana, and Mrityu yoga.
What is Sarvarth Siddhi Yoga?
Sarvarth Siddhi (literally 'all goals accomplished') is a powerful special yoga formed by specific weekday + Nakshatra combinations. When active, it is considered to bless all auspicious endeavours and can override mild dosha effects.
Why does my preferred date show a low score?
A low score usually means one or more of: a Riktha tithi (4, 9, 14), an inauspicious yoga (Vyatipata, Vaidhriti, Vishkambha), Vishti karana, an unfavourable Nakshatra for the chosen activity, or an active Mrityu yoga. The 'warnings' field shows the specific issue.
Can I book a marriage on a low-score day if it's the only option?
Traditional Vedic practice strongly favours high-score days. If timing is forced, a knowledgeable astrologer may prescribe remedies (mantras, specific puja, donations) to mitigate. The score helps you understand what you're working with — it isn't a hard block.
