Daily Panchang — Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Choghadiya & Muhurat
Panchang means 'five limbs' in Sanskrit — Tithi (lunar day), Nakshatra (lunar mansion), Yoga (sun-moon conjunction), Karana (half-tithi), and Vara (weekday). For thousands of years, Vedic practitioners have used the Panchang to time ceremonies, business launches, travel, and life transitions.
AstroLumina calculates these five elements live for any location with Swiss Ephemeris precision. You also get sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset, solar noon, the auspicious windows (Brahma Muhurat, Pratah Sandhya, Abhijit Muhurat, Sayam Sandhya), the inauspicious periods to avoid (Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda, Gulika), the day's full Choghadiya rail, the 24-hora cycle, plus the deeper Vedic context — Vikram and Shaka Samvat years, Amanta and Purnimanta lunar months, Disha Shool direction, Anandadi Yoga, Surya Nakshatra, special yogas (Sarvarth Siddhi, Amrit Siddhi, Ravi Pushya), and any festivals or observances active today.

Daily Panchang Today — Tithi, Nakshatra, Choghadiya, Rahu Kaal, Muhurat
What does the Panchang tell me about today?
Tithi shows where the Moon sits relative to the Sun — its progress flag tells you how soon it ends. Nakshatra is the Moon's lunar mansion (one of 27); each has a presiding deity, animal, gana, and yoni that shape the day's mood. Yoga is the Sun-Moon angular sum mapped to one of 27 named yogas — auspicious or inauspicious. Karana is half a Tithi; the only one to actively avoid is Vishti (Bhadra). Vara is the weekday and its planetary lord, which colours every other limb.
Which auspicious windows should I use today?
Brahma Muhurat (96 to 48 minutes before sunrise) is the universal pre-dawn window for meditation and study. Pratah Sandhya is the dawn transition, ideal for sandhyavandanam. Abhijit Muhurat is a 24-minute window centred on solar noon — universally favourable for new beginnings. Sayam Sandhya (around sunset) is Pradosh Kala for Shiva worship. Use your day's auspicious Choghadiya periods (Amrit, Char, Labh, Shubh) for matching activities.
How do I avoid Rahu Kaal and inauspicious times?
Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda, and Gulika Kaal are each one-eighth of daylight, ruled by shadow planets and traditionally avoided for new ventures, signing contracts, marriages, and travel. Routine work is fine. Their position in the day depends on the weekday — Sunday's Rahu Kaal is the last 8th of daylight, Monday's is the 2nd, and so on. The Panchang shows you the exact local times.
Why do samvats and lunar months matter?
Vikram Samvat (Gregorian + 57) and Shaka Samvat (Gregorian − 78) are the two Indian calendar eras still used for festivals and rituals. The Amanta lunar month (ending at Amavasya) is dominant in southern and western India; the Purnimanta (ending at Purnima) is used in the north. Knowing your lunar month tells you which Ekadashi falls today, which festival is upcoming, and which planetary themes the season carries.
✦ Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Panchang?
Panchang is the traditional Hindu astrological calendar. It displays the five elements of each day — Tithi (lunar day), Nakshatra (lunar mansion), Yoga (auspicious conjunction), Karana (half-day), and Vara (weekday) — alongside sunrise/sunset, auspicious windows, and inauspicious periods.
What is Tithi and how does it differ from a calendar date?
A Tithi is a lunar day — the time the Moon takes to gain 12° on the Sun. There are 30 Tithis per lunar month, split into shukla paksha (waxing) and krishna paksha (waning). Tithis don't align with 24-hour calendar dates — a Tithi can begin or end at any hour, which is why the Panchang shows the exact end time.
What is Nakshatra?
Nakshatra is one of the 27 lunar mansions in Vedic astrology. The Moon traverses all 27 every ~27 days, spending about 24 hours in each. Each Nakshatra has a presiding deity, symbol, animal, gana, yoni, and elemental nature, and is auspicious for different activities.
What is Choghadiya?
Choghadiya divides daylight (sunrise to sunset) and night (sunset to sunrise) into eight ~90-minute periods each. Each period is named after a planet (Amrit, Char, Labh, Shubh are auspicious; Udveg, Kal, Rog are not). Choghadiya is widely used in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and across western India for hourly timing.
What is Rahu Kaal and why is it considered inauspicious?
Rahu Kaal is one of eight equal portions of daylight, ruled by the shadow planet Rahu. It varies by weekday and lasts roughly 90 minutes. It is traditionally avoided for starting new ventures, signing contracts, marriages, and travel — though routine work is fine.
What's the difference between Brahma Muhurat and Abhijit Muhurat?
Brahma Muhurat is the 96-to-48-minute window before sunrise — the most sacred pre-dawn hour for meditation, study, and spiritual practice. Abhijit Muhurat is a ~24-minute window centered on solar noon (1/15 of daytime around midday) — universally auspicious for new beginnings.
